The non-profit association Desmos, within the framework of the “Desmos for Schools” programme and with the support of the technology company Epignosis, upgraded the robotics and laboratory room of the 6th Experimental Junior High School of Alexandroupoli with new equipment.

Specifically, Epignosis donated tens of robotics kits (including AI robots and smart agriculture sets), experiment kits for Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Geology, computer towers, a 3D printer, and stationery.

The room represents a pivotal upgrade for the school and has fundamentally changed the way Science and Computer Science are taught.

Thanks to the new equipment, students now participate in experiential activities that connect theory with practice.

In 3rd grade of secondary school Biology, students build a DNA double helix with bricks, while in Physics they observe the effects of static electricity with the help of a Van de Graaff generator and become part of a closed electrical circuit by touching a glass plasma sphere.

At the same time, in the Robotics Club they programme “smart farmers” that water the classroom plants and build small vehicles that move using voice commands.

The delivery of the equipment took place on Friday, 30 January 2026, in the presence of the teachers, the Parents’ Association, and representatives of Epignosis and Desmos.

During the event, students presented the new tools and the robotics applications they are working on.

Two students demonstrated a robot they programmed to move using voice commands and sign recognition camera, while two students explained how the “smart agriculture kit” works, which includes soil-moisture and air- temperature sensors and alerts when watering is required.

Ms Chrysi Manolopoulou, Principal of the 6th Experimental Junior High School of Alexandroupoli, stated:

“Your contribution is not limited to a single donation. It is an act of social responsibility and a tangible example of the social role that a modern business can and should have. The new room will be used educationally in many ways, both for teaching and through our school’s Robotics Club, enabling students to develop interests, take part in activities, competitions and collaborative programmes, and engage with modern forms of learning that connect theory to practice.”

Ms Dimitra Karapatsoudi, Computer Science Teacher at the 6th Experimental Junior High School of Alexandroupoli and Head of the Robotics Club, stated:

“They like the class because it is hands-on and not just theory. The process of making mistakes and correcting them cultivates their critical thinking and prompts them to make decisions. Working in teams also helps build teamwork. They work on code and connections and try to solve the problem when something does not work.”

In addition, she noted that the Robotics Club is already preparing for the next regional STEM competition in late March and plans to take part in an open technologies competition in the summer.

Mr Giannis Rizos, Software Engineer at Epignosis, stated:

“We are very happy that, in collaboration with Desmos, we are handing over this robotics room to your secondary school today. Robotics is something unique: it is the moment when code meets the real world. You write something on the screen and you see a motor turning, a sensor responding. This direct link between thought and outcome is the most powerful thing one can experience in the field of technology. Hopefully, many more Greek companies will undertake similar initiatives and equip school rooms across Greece with the tools required for Science and Computer Science classes.”

Mr Stamatis Psaroudakis, Marketing & Communications Manager at the non-profit organisation Desmos, stated:

“Through the ‘Desmos for Schools’ programme, our goal is to ensure equal learning opportunities for all children, wherever they live, by meeting recorded and verified needs of state schools through targeted donations of equipment and infrastructure.

The upgrade of the robotics and laboratory room at the 6th Experimental Junior High School of Alexandroupoli, with the support of Epignosis, creates the conditions for technology to move from theory to practice and become an everyday learning tool. This is how a donation can be transformed into a real investment in the future of children.”
